Playstation August State of Play

State of Play revealed nothing game changing, but gave us plenty to chew on with details on Temtem, Godfall, and the newest Crash Bandicoot game

Playstation August State of Play

If you were expecting big PlayStation 5 reveals from this August's State of Play, you'd be disappointed. However, there was a closer look into the already-announced Godfall, and the reveal of a Pokemon-esque MMO initially released only for PC. Let's take a look at the highlights of this August 6th State of Play.

Temtem Is Coming To The PlayStation 5

Over Pokemon's long and successful history, it never managed to capitalize on a proper MMO. Unfortunately for it, that opened the opportunity for another company to swoop in. Fortunately for us, it gave us the online creature-capturing, creature-training, and creature-battling game we've been waiting for.

It might not have the Pokemon name, but it has a great shot at filling the hole in our lives that we never realized we had. Initially only available on Steam, it's coming to the PlayStation 5 in 2021.

Godfall Looks Like The Love-Child Of Several Different Titles

Imagine if some mad scientist took Dark Souls, Monster Hunter, and Destiny, and put it into one game to create Godfall. We took a quick look at some gameplay in Godfall, and it looks interesting, to say the least.

It takes the combat-style of Monster Hunter, the looter-shooter aspect of Destiny, and the aesthetic of Dark Souls that promises to feel very smooth and immersive with the PlayStation 5's DualSense controller.

Vader Immortal Gives Us Hope That VR Isn't Dead

The Star Wars video game series is taking a lot of risks with an all-virtual reality game. Yes, the entire three-part story of exploring Darth Vader's fortress will be completely virtual. Despite the ongoing pandemic, ILMxLAB and Black Shamrock have been working overtime to, fingers crossed, bring us a VR title worth playing.

Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time

It's about time indeed. The developers, Toys For Bob, and the publisher, Activision, knew precisely what they were doing when they named this new Crash Bandicoot title. They're planning on cashing in on the title's staying power for those with nostalgic memories of the original PlayStation's bandicoot.

The exciting part about the trailer is the playable characters aren't just Crash and a female Bandicoot named Coco. There was a tiny bit of gameplay that showed players controlling Cortex himself. Has the villain changed his ways?

We'll see when we get to play this time-traveling title. Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time will be available for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 in October 2020.

Aeon Must Die! Is Controversial

We're bringing this up because Aeon Must Die! shows up in the PlayStation's State of Play, but soon after, a devastating controversy surrounded the game.

You're playing a deposed emperor who goes on a beat-em-up style adventure across the universe. You are tearing your way through space, but you're doing it in armor that makes you completely invincible. The whole premise is beating things up until you heat up enough to use special moves. You won't die, in the traditional way of video game deaths, but you will get weaker against Aeon. Aeon is the being who is slowly taking over your body and mental state. Here's hoping that they can pull off this concept.

Unfortunately, after Aeon Must Die! was shown at the PlayStation's State of Play, allegations surfaced that accused the developers, Limestone Games, of stealing the game. Not only did the developers steal the game, but they did through a culture of abuse and manipulation. Aeon Must Die! is slated to launch in 2021, but that could change in light of these revelations.

What else?

We were spoon fed more about:

  • Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time gameplay
  • Godfall gameplay
  • Spelunky 2 details
  • The Pathless gameplay
  • Bugsnax update
  • Braid, Anniversary Edition coming to PS4 in 2021
  • Hitman

Otherwise, outside of The Elder Scrolls Online and DOOM Eternal confirmed to head over to the PlayStation 5 with free upgrades for those who own the titles on the PS4, the event was rather uneventful.
